To give you a sense of how our Learning Guides can be used by teachers as lesson plans and by parents to supplement school curriculum or for homeschooling, we have set out below a paragraph from the Learning Guide to The Black Stallion.
The term "cobra" refers to several types of poisonous snakes
characterized by their deadly bite and the intimidating
behavior of spreading their throats. Some cobras are very
large, growing to 18 feet in length. The range of the Cobra
is the Philippines, southern Asia (including the Indian
subcontinent) and Africa. A cobra's venom attacks the
nervous system. Effective serums are now available and the
death rate from cobra bites decreases where it is available.
The Learning Guide to The Black Stallion also contains sections on Benefits of the Movie, Possible Problems, Helpful Background, Discussion Questions, Links to the Internet, and Bridges to Reading. The Discussion Questions are divided into three categories: Subject Matter, Social-Emotional Learning, and Moral-Ethical Emphasis.
